‘The men’s games you won’t want to miss” – The Standard (MSU)

    Wyatt Wheeler, Sports Editor
    November 1, 2016

“Why: Even with the departure of star players Fred VanVleet and Ron Baker, Wichita State was still selected as the team to beat in the Missouri Valley. The Bears will close the regular season in a “rivalry” game with Wichita State at JQH Arena. The Bears will know where they stand at this point, but a win against the Shockers in front of their home crowd could give them the confidence they need when going into Arch Madness.”

With the Shockers being chosen as their best home game of the season, I wonder if MSU will be firing up the “ole’ Doomsday Clock” again this year on their athletic website?

I'd say UNI without a doubt, although ISUr may have some slight claim in the matter.

Meant to quote @lemuel777: in this post. UNI is our biggest MVC rival is my book

I'd say ISUr and UNI could both be considered rivals, but in different ways. UNI, they would be more along the line of friendly rivals. For the most part we get along with them, they get along with us. ISUr, well, we flat out hate their guts, and as we all know, sometimes it gets ugly when we are playing ISUr

A rivalry has to be halfway competitive. We have flat out dominated the Jailbirds for the better part of the last decade. We'd have more of a rivalry with Evansville than Illinois State.

Illinois State is just a program that wants to be good but is never good and is fun to make fun of because you never know what garbage is gonna fly from there next.

Maybe feud would be a better way to describe ISUr. Either way, they are public enemy #1 in the Valley

I'd say ISUr and UNI are our current rivals because they're the only ones that have shown they can beat us lately.

Was bored at work so was looking at the forums for MVC teams and came across this thread. I went back the last 5 years to see how Shockers did against ISU, UNI, and Evansville since those names were mentioned. WSU was 10-3 vs ISU, 7-4 vs UNI, and 9-2 vs Evansville.

So based just off winning percentages UNI would be closest to a rival to WSU with ISU being next closest. I didn't look at the rest of the MVC teams so take this for what it's worth I guess!
